all hands on deck

Design concept for the Wilmington Schooners, a minor-league farm-system team for the Washington Nationals, located in Wilmington, Delaware.

Situated on the Christina and Brandywine Rivers, near where the Christina River flows into the Delaware River, and given it’s rich maritime history, the Schooners was a perfect name for the team. The Kalmar Nyckel, the official Tall Ship of Delaware, acts as an unofficial mascot of the organization.

The logo portrays a ship’s helm, where the spokes and handles are made up of baseball bats, and a ball at its center. The 10 bats represent the nine players on the field and their manager making a complete team.

making waves

As part of the minor league “farm” system of the Washington Nationals, the Schooners adapted a similar palette as the Nationals because of their association with Washington, DC; our nation’s history; and Delaware’s claim as the First State and it’s proximity to our nation’s capital.

These colors have become a recognizable identifier for the franchise. Consistent use of these colors will contribute to the cohesive and harmonious look of the Schooners brand identity across all relevant media. Use them as the dominant color palette for all internal and external visual presentations of the team.
