Leading the Herd

This is a branding design concept for the Coventry High School Oakers, a high school located in Coventry, RI. The project was first introduced as an exercise to rebrand the mascot of an alma mater. The school's nickname is the Knotty Oakers, which is usually shortened to simply "Oakers". The original high school was built near Knotty Oak Road and Rt .117, the location of a large oak tree that was a local landmark, but for some reason, the mascot is represented by an elephant.

The school never really had any official branding for the Oakers. The last original logo was a drawing of an elephant holding a triangular pennant with its trunk. Over the years, the Oakers starting mimicking professional and collegiate sports logos like the Cincinnati Reds and Alabama Crimson Tide. This mark is intended to create a unity across all sports that the high school participates in, and portray a menacing intimidation as the elephant charges towards victory.
